From last-second heroics to jaw-dropping plays and emotional highs and lows, this title game had everything fans could ask forāand then some. š®
The matchup featured the Florida Gators taking on the Arizona Wildcats, two teams who had taken very different paths to the championship. Florida was riding a season-long redemption arc after being eliminated in the first round of the 2024 tournament, while Arizona had steamrolled through their bracket, led by one of the most explosive offenses in the nation.
From the opening tip, it was clear this wasnāt going to be a blowout. Both teams came out locked ināFlorida pushing the tempo and spreading the floor, while Arizona leaned on their size and perimeter shooting. The lead changed hands 12 times in the first half alone, and neither team led by more than seven points at any point.
The energy inside the arena was electric. Every bucket was met with roars, every turnover with gasps, and every big play had the crowd on its feet. The players felt it tooādiving for loose balls, celebrating big shots, and playing with the kind of heart that defines March Madness.
The second half was where things really got crazy.
Florida came out firing after halftime, going on an 11ā2 run behind the hot hand of junior guard Riley Kugel, who finished with 27 points and made clutch shots every time the Gators needed a lift. But Arizona refused to go away. Led by star freshman Jayden Ross, the Wildcats countered with a flurry of threes and tough finishes in the paint.
With just under two minutes to go, the game was tied at 74ā74.
What followed was pure chaosāin the best way possible.
Florida hit a huge three with 1:42 left, but Arizona answered immediately with a step-back jumper of their own. Then, with under 30 seconds to go and the game tied again at 79, Florida held for the final shot.
Thatās when the moment happened.
With 6 seconds left on the clock, Kugel came off a high screen, split two defenders, and rose for a midrange jumper. The shot bounced off the back iron, but sophomore forward Alex Condon came flying in for the putbackātipping the ball in as the buzzer sounded.
The arena exploded. Florida players sprinted to midcourt in celebration, Arizona players dropped to their knees in disbelief, and fans were losing their minds both in the stands and across the country.
The referees reviewed the play, slowing it down frame by frame to make sure the ball left Condonās fingertips before the buzzer. After what felt like an eternity, the officials confirmed the call: BUCKET GOOD. FLORIDA WINS.

Final score: Florida 81, Arizona 79.
It was a finish worthy of the history booksāand one that will be replayed for years to come.
āThis is what we dreamed of,ā Kugel said in the postgame interview, visibly emotional. āAfter what happened last year, we knew we had to come back stronger. This is for every Gator who stuck with us.ā
Head coach Todd Golden, who faced doubts just a year ago, couldnāt contain his pride.
āPeople counted us out,ā he said. āBut this team believed. They worked. And now theyāre champions.ā
On the other side, Arizona held their heads high. Despite the heartbreaking loss, they played like champions and earned the respect of the entire basketball world.
In a tournament filled with surprises, comebacks, and unforgettable moments, this game was the crown jewel. Two elite teams gave everything they hadāand in the end, it came down to a single tip-in at the buzzer.
An unbelievable national championship game, indeed. š®
